How many garbage cans does one parking lot need?

The boat launch parking lot
Can you guess how many public trash cans are found in the City of  Hudson Boat Launch parking lot?

Drive-by disposal

If you guessed that there are 7 cans, you win the prize.

There are two cans located at the entrance/exit, far from the boat launch, one being adjacent to the stop sign.  Thank goodness we have those areas covered, the  litter hotspots that they must be.

So convenient and useful

There are two cans in a rather remote area of the lot at the base of a set of stairs.  So much trash there on a daily basis needing a proper home!  Those 2 cans must fill up mighty quick!  There are no cans in the area at the top of those stairs where public benches and a picnic table are located, where there is a nice view of the river, where trash might actually be produced.

Finally, there are 3 cans near the boat launch itself.  Presumably there are 3 cans there so that all boaters who return to land with trash they produced while boating (which they brought along in the first place) have a choice of where to dispose of their waste that Hudson taxpayers will pay to have disposed for them.

Of course, the majority of the parking lot sits empty most of the time and during the winter the boat launch itself is rarely used.   But it begs some questions:  Why doesn't the City Hall Municipal Parking Lot have at least 7 trash cans in it?  And where else is the city being so wasteful and not paying attention?  And, of course: how many trash cans does a seldom-used parking lot, no matter its purpose, really need?

Taxpayer's waste, 1 of 7
