"I'm Sure Something Else Needing Attention Will Soon Appear" [with update]

I finished Friday's article about our water and general infrastructure woes with that line.  It came true a lot quicker than I thought it would, and it's a biggie that surely needs DPW's attention!

At around 6 pm today, Sunday, a water main under South 4th street appears to have burst, sending a cascade of water to the drains on Warren Street, which seemed to be accommodating the extra water.  Pictures were taken about 20 minutes after the pipe burst.

I think today's rain, while substantial, was a whole lot less than the amount we had last Sunday.  But it's the cumulative effect of so much rain and runoff that our pipes just can't handle, especially if they are old pipes to begin with.  It will be interesting to see how much time and manpower DPW has to put into this  issue on 4th Street.  Time to excavate, probably tomorrow.  Put the other excavations and the paving of the truck route on the back burner.

All this water infrastructure work on Robert Perry's plate must be giving him a bit of a headache.

The 4th Street resident seen standing in his doorway told me that he had no water pressure, and that he was not happy that no one from DPW or the Water Department was at the scene 20 minutes after the pipe had burst.  Just 2 police cruisers, with officers in their vehicles, were present.

Update, Monday:  After stopping the flow of water from the burst water main, the DPW Water Department began digging on 4th Street at about 7:30 last night, shortly after this picture was taken.  Notice in the picture the old brick street surface that the water leak breaking through the street exposed.  4th Street and Cherry Alley.

The Water Department was working at the site at 7:30 this morning.
