When Fear Of THE BOOT Fails, Who Pays?

Finally BOOTed

When I first noticed this booted vehicle last week, I thought it looked familiar. It turned out that it was familiar, and very much so.  I had posted 2 articles, one in March and one in April, about the black Jeep (KRC 3382) with the Hudson parking permit hanging from its rear-view mirror when it had a crazy amount of outstanding unpaid parking tickets and no BOOT on its front driver's wheel.

On Friday, I checked to see how much the freshly BOOTed Jeep owed the city in parking ticket fines.  It was just below $1,400, from a total of around 30 unpaid parking tickets! (I did not write the info down and it is no longer available).  3 months ago, the owner of the Jeep owed the city $1,030 for 37 overdue tickets.

Apparently, since the Jeep is no longer parked in the 500 block of Warren, last week the owner paid to have the BOOT removed and handed some money over to the Parking BureauAs of today, according to public records, the Jeep owner owes the City of Hudson $730 on 16 overdue tickets.  All but one of the tickets are for meter violations, at $45 each.  It appears that the Parking Bureau allowed the Jeep owner to pay off about half of the fees it owed.

And we allow this car owner, who has a serious problem with paying their parking tickets, to continue to possess a city parking permit?  Was the owner reminded that their $250 parking permit does not apply to on-street metered parking spaces?

According to the City Code, 3 overdue unpaid parking tickets will get you DA BOOT. THREE!
