"More Concrete, Fewer Trees!" Declares Galvan

Galvan, the great benefactor of Hudson, recently installed new concrete sidewalks around their apartment building at 5th & Union.  Unlike their new sidewalk in front of the Alger house, these sidewalks appear to be free of tripping hazards.
Were there trees here at one point?
And like the Alger house sidewalk, the sidewalks on South 5th and on Union are completely free of any open spaces for sidewalk trees, even on South 5th where there is an attractive row of mature and healthy-looking trees in front of adjacent properties.  Galvan could have complemented those trees with some of their own, but they chose not to.  Weren't those supposedly civic-minded people at Galvan once part of the effort to get more sidewalk trees in town?

Shouldn't sidewalk trees be a required part of the discussion when development proposals involving sidewalks come before the Planning Board?
