Our 3rd Ward Exemplar, Helping Bring All Of Hudson Into The 21st Century! (You'd Think He Would Give A Crap)

While viewing last week's informal Common Council meeting on my laptop, I noticed that my two 3rd ward council representatives were in attendance -- Shershah Mizan attending in person at City Hall and Lola Roberts "attending" via a screen.  I didn't hear either one of them say anything of importance or ask any questions of any department heads (forgive me if I missed when they opened their mouths to offer anything of import if they did).  I also didn't hear any council members bring up the issue of the missing NO TURN ON RED sign at the Stewart's corner, an issue that seems to have been dropped altogether among all the other distractions the poor members are facing.  It's like a never-ending deluge as they are struggling to tread water and keep their heads from sinking!   Let me tell you -- it ain't pretty!  Many appear to have just given up.

Perturbed that for the past several months the Stewart's corner has been missing a NO TURN ON RED sign for southbound traffic on Fairview; disappointed that the issue has not been raised for 2 or 3 months, even by the one or two members (not from the 3rd ward, mind you!) who initially showed interest in getting the sign reinstalled; and truly disappointed that neither Shershah nor Lola seems to give a crap whether the missing important sign in their ward ever reappears, I decided to stop by Shershah's house yesterday to see if he had anything to say about the missing sign directly in front of his house that makes the Stewart's intersection more dangerous than it was prior to the recently made "improvements."  I knocked on all 6 of the doors of his house, front and back, but got no response.  However, as a visitor to 163-165 Green Street, possibly the most commonly viewed house in all of Hudson, I was forced to see and have to contend with the following:

Ready for Shershah's face again!  Why ever take it down?
Because Code Enforcement doesn't care either!

Each stair was unsecured
Notice the two delivered packages at the top of the stairs covered in vegetation:
"Hello, does anyone live here?"
(each stair was loose!!!!)

Broken windows, peeling paint, overgrown
vegetation, you name it...

This dangerous, disgraceful mess is acceptable to a
Common Council member!  A repeat council member!
And Code Enforcement as well!

Notice the nearly completely separated rusted metal post of the railing.  Notice, also, the space between the ground and the concrete at the bottom of the support for the railing.  Should anyone be visiting this house, even to deliver a package?  If they know what is good for their mail carriers, the post office should refuse to deliver mail to Shershah's house!

Shershah Mizan, council membrer and
poster boy for responsible property ownership!

A car that appears to have not moved in
months with a long-expired inspection sticker
and a registration that expires in 10 days.
Inches from the sidewalk and behind the house.

How about every council member, upon being sworn in, is required to sign an agreement that reads:  If you own any property/properties in the City of Hudson, whether you live in it/them or not, the building and the surrounding grounds cannot look dangerous, actually be dangerous or look like shit.  All buildings and surrounding properties owned by council members must look decent and respectable as we expect all buildings and properties in the city to appear.  Because you are now representing not only your ward but the entire city, properties owned by elected representatives such as yourself that look like shit or are dangerous will not be tolerated.  The city and the entire Common Council expect the respect from you that you should expect of every property owner in the city, regardless of ward designation.  Even something as simple as maintaining vegetation on your property or properties must be strictly attended to on a regular basis.  Keeping your sidewalk free of snow, ice and other dangerous and unwelcome obstructions is a must at all times.

Welcome to the Hudson Common Council -- please do your part or you will be regularly scorned for not doing so.  Not having the money to maintain your property properly and decently is not an excuse.  The City of Hudson now has zero toleration for useless hypocrites on the Common Council.  As a council member, you are expected to show leadership, set a positive example and NOT impact the city negatively either by your actions or through the property you own.  Unsightly and dangerous properties do not positively impact the ward and the city you are representing.  Hudson Common Council members are not paid $5,0000 to negatively impact the City of Hudson.

Thank you, and please sign here___________________________

Sadly, the time may be right for something like this to be handed to all new and reelected council members.

A repeat Common Council member of
very questionable usefulness

The Hudson Common Council is just a reflection of most of the rest of City Hall:  BUSH LEAGUE.  The Council can't accomplish much of anything if the rest of City Hall doesn't give a shit and offers little to no support of, or interest in, the council.

Unlike DPW, HPD, the Treasurer's Office, the Youth Department and the Office of Senior Services, the Code Enforcement Office is not required (expected?) to come in front of the Common Council to regularly offer a monthly report.  It is almost as if there is no Code Enforcement Office at all.  Things are better that way for certain council members.  You think Shershah Mizan would want to see Craig Haigh at the monthly informal meetings?  How would that help him and the residents of the 3rd ward who he is supposedly representing and responding to?

See that NO TURN ON RED sign in this screenshot from
one year ago?  Last fall, at the end of "improvements,"
it was removed but never installed on the new
horizontal pole that we still have now.  Do you think
Shershah Mizan, whose big, beautiful face is blurred to
the right, gives a crap?  What does he care about?
