Another tractor trailer headed west on the Alternate Truck Route (ATR)! This driver knew exactly where he was going, and this was probably his 600th time making a delivery or pickup in Hudson using State Street.
Check out the driver's preferred route...
Past 4th Street, past 3rd Street and on to 2nd Street ... will he turn right and head down the hill to Harney Tea?
No! Continue on to Front Street! Where will the delivery be made?
To the plastic factory!
10 minutes later, it's time to get out of town. But not on the truck route! Oh, no! Why on earth would the driver use the truck route? (He passed two signs for the truck route at Columbia on Front.)
Can you blame the driver? The cops don't care, and Warren is so much smoother and more scenic than the pathetic truck route! The truck route is for suckers who obey signs!
Every pothole, uneven surface and hard brake forced a loud clanging out of the lift gate! Kerang, Kerang! Merrily he rolled along, and City Hall don't see nothin' wrong!
Just another 53-foot tractor trailer in the heart of downtown on Warren Street having made a delivery elsewhere and trying to get out of town!
Now approaching 6th Street... wave to the mayor!
Then roaring past the 7th Street Park and Park Place!
I have no doubt that the driver follows this route to make a delivery or pickup at CraftTech at least once a week. He knew exactly where he was going and how to most quickly, easily and pleasantly get in and out of town using as little of the actual truck route as possible. And he's definitely not the only one doing it.
He'll be back soon to do it all again along the same route! And, once again, no at City Hall will care what streets he drives his big rig on! Not even the Hudson police.
If Hudson ever rids itself of the pass-through truck route, will all trucks and tractor trailers making deliveries be able to use whatever streets they please to get in and out of town?
