The Message Matters

A rare sight in Hudson

How many of these ALTERNATE PARKING IN EFFECT signs are posted in downtown Hudson?   Maybe 8?

A common sight on
our shortest street

Frederick Street is one of the shortest streets in Hudson, perhaps the shortest at about 200 feet in length.  There are 4 Alternate Parking signs posted on Frederick, 2 on each side.  1 of those 4 is unreadable.

Did you say the
rule is important?

City officials have claimed in the past that the Overnight Parking rules are important and that the city does its best to inform car owners of the rules, but it's a bit difficult to believe.  If almost all of the city is without signs regarding overnight parking rules, you have to wonder if the rules are designed just to bring money into the city coffers. Create a parking rule, do your best to not let people know about it.

There are exactly zero ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING rule signs on the entirety of State Street.  None on 6th Street.  None on 5th.  None on Warren!  And on and on.  But Frederick?

The rule exists to keep parked cars out of the way of the all-important DPW sweeper, but the sweeper does not operate in cold temperatures (read:  ALL WINTER).   The signs on Frederick are there to keep vehicles from parking in the way of the sweeper.

Park on the "wrong" side of the street at night, even when the sweeper is NOT going to be visiting your neighborhood and there is no threat of snow, and you can expect to get a $15 ticket.  Of course, there likely isn't a sign about the Alternate Side Parking rule anywhere near your car.

But DPW recently found the money to buy and install 24 of these important signs:
