Are both signs equally important? |
I took this picture of the truck route signs hanging above the intersection of 3rd and Columbia almost 3 years ago, soon after DPW installed them. This is, of course, at the busy and critical turn along our truck route.
Truckers' failure to obey the signs has caused many headaches and annoyance for those living on State Street, as well as crushed trash receptacles and street signs, stuck trucks, HPD responses, and no shortage of dangerous situations. There can be no debate among sensible people that both of these signs are critical in keeping trucks from straying off the truck route onto streets they have no place driving or attempting to drive on. They are certainly not panaceas, but the signs made a huge difference to those of us living on State Street after they were installed.
Sometime this past summer, maybe in September, I noticed that the sign on the left went missing, likely due to heavy winds that had blown through Hudson at the time. I took this picture today:

Missing for at least 7 months |
A few weeks ago, DPW installed 24 CROSS ONLY ON GREEN signs along Warren and on S. 3rd after "DPW and HPD had identified a pedestrian safety issue" with pedestrians walking east-west on Warren crossing the one-way side streets. Apparently, though, there was no "safety issue" identified for pedestrians crossing two-way Warren Street. If the Common Council fiasco about reinstalling a NO TURN ON RED sign at 4th and State is any indication, it may take at least another 7 months to get the important missing TRUCK ROUTE sign reinstalled at 3rd and Columbia. That is, of course, if Robert Perry and Shane (Mystery Man) Bower feel that both signs are equally important.

The driver passed one truck route sign at the previous intersection, not two |
