Here are the conditions found this morning behind two Galvan-owned buildings in town, pretty much the same as most days of the week.
The apartment complex on State Street has been without a garbage dumpster for 8 months. The apartment building at 2nd and Warren got a new, smaller dumpster recently, and it appears to always be locked. Vermin had torn into bags at both locations, food waste and swarms of flies were visible, and there was, of course, that certain odor one would expect from garbage sitting outside in the heat and sun for a day or more. When full, the city's blue garbage bags are only supposed to be put out for pick up the night before DPW is scheduled to remove them. Doing otherwise is considered a code violation.

Can code violations apply to Galvan? |
This is acceptable to our friends at the "community"-hugging organization known as Galvan, as well as at to the Mayor of Hudson and the person in charge at Hudson Code Enforcement, both of whom have been well aware of these situations for some time.
Hudson Mayor Kamal Johnson can be reached at 518-828-7217. If you call him, please ask him if he finds this acceptable. Also, ask him if he knows where the Code Enforcment Office is located and if anyone has been working there recently. Maybe, too, ask the mayor if he has a contact person at Galvan.
