3 Weeks And Counting

There are two things you may be wondering about when looking at these pictures or when driving past Stewart's recently.  First, why is there a line of cones in the street?  Second, why are cars parked partially on the sidewalk along Green Street?

The answer to both of these questions is this:  3 weeks ago (3!), the contractor responsible for striping the pavement at the improved intersection of Green & Fairview placed the double yellow lines in the wrong location, creating just one lane when there should be two.  Drivers were ignoring the yellow lines by driving on the left of them.  Not good!  Thus, the line of cones and barriers, forcing drivers to remain on the correct/right side of the yellow lines.

Of course, the cones and the barriers at the bend in Green Street make for a narrower truck route, so parking on the sidewalk is just a survival tactic, as well as a traffic violation.  I don't think there is a "I had no other option" defense to appeal that ticket, though it's certainly worth a try.

Wasn't it at the July 10th Informal Council meeting that DPW Commissioner Peter Bujanow told everyone that the improvements to the Stewart's intersection would be complete once the striping on the pavement was finished?  What on earth is taking whoever to fix the problem, finally get rid of the cones and barriers, and open the road back up?  What a crapshow!

3 weeks ago.  Problem solved with cones and barriers!
