WELCOME to the world where pedestrians, children, and the disabled do not matter. The one thing that does matter is that electric cars can be charged anywhere an owner feels is appropriate. |
I took a few minutes to peruse chapter 266 of the Hudson City Code, titled Streets and Sidewalks, but I couldn't find anything related to power cords, extension cords, or welcome mats crossing a sidewalk. At some point, preferably soon, there will need to be an amendment to that chapter regarding the issue of powering electric vehicles while parked on a city street. Hopefully, it happens prior to someone tripping and falling on their face because someone had to charge their car parked in front of their house with a thick power cord laid across the sidewalk (possibly covered by a dark mat).
It would be interesting to ask the Hudson ADA Coordinator (and Mayoral Aide) Michael Hoffman, where the city stands (falls?) on this issue, which is sure to grow, and grow fast. If no one at City Hall is saying that laying a thick live electric wire across a sidewalk, even at night, is not permitted, then why wouldn't we start to see it everywhere?
WELCOME to the future, where pedestrians and the disabled still have no respect. ADA? Is that short for Automobile Disrepect Acceptance? |
I guess that electric vehicles are an improvement over their gas guzzling cousins, but if there are few or no options to charge them at a proper charging station, should we be surprised that the latest hazard on Hudson's already dangerous sidewalks are thick, live electric wires? Even at night?
