Just A Truck Causing Some Extra Damage While Passing Through The City!

Earlier today, in the 700 block of Columbia, a Colarusso gravel truck travelling west clipped the opening door of a parked car just enough to do some serious damage to the car but not take the door off its hinges.  When I arrived, the owner of the car was furious, pacing back and forth and yelling out loud to no one in particular:  "I just got this car fixed.  I just got this car fixed, god damn it!  He was driving so fast and so close to me," pointing to the truck, which had parked ahead in front of Citgo.  The door would not close, and the door's shattered window was all over the street, with passing traffic riding over it.  Notice that the door panel had completely fallen off.  One HPD officer was soon on the scene.  (We should hire an officer whose sole duty is to respond to vehicle accidents!)

This Colarusso gravel truck destroyed the car door
(and perhaps more)

If you stand at or near the bend where Columbia becomes Green Street for just a few minutes when the street is (or isn't) busy with traffic, it can be horrifying to see how fast vehicles speed in that area in both directions, including trucks and tractor trailers of all types, sizes and weights. It's absolutely crazy, and it is only getting worse.

Can you imagine opening your car door to suddenly see and hear an enormous and roaring 18- or 22-wheeled truck two feet away from you cause your door to essentially explode in your face?  On a downtown street in the business district of a city of 6,000 residents?   This is not healthy for anyone!

This truck route and Colarusso route shit has GOT TO GO!

As I prepared to leave the scene of the accident, I watched three consecutive enormous Colarusso dump trucks take the turn off of Park Place on to Columbia.  Their engines were so god damn loud! About 5 hours later, walking through the park, I watched two consecutive enormous Colarusso trucks take the same turn, and I took a picture of the lovely sight.
