PSA: Drivers Beware of Beer Party Taking Over Upper State Street On Saturday

There will be an event this Saturday hosted by the Upper Depot Brewery that will close State Street from Green Street to 7th Street between the hours of noon and 7 pm. The event is being billed as a "CAR SHOW WITH TWO CRAFT BEVERAGE PRODUCERS, FOOD VENDORS, LIVE MUSIC."  Literally on State Street! DPW Superintendent Robert Perry and Chief of Police Mishanda Franklin reviewed and accepted the application for the event, and Mayor Kamal Johnson approved it.

For over 7 hours on Saturday, any and all vehicles headed east on State trying to reach Green Street or Columbia Street will be detoured onto 7th Street where most of the drivers will have to contend with one of the city's most dangerous and annoying intersections, that being Columbia & 7th. When I am driving, I do all I can to avoid finding myself on 7th headed to Columbia.  It is best to avoid approaching that intersection from the north whenever possible!

An intersection to avoid!

On Saturday, for over 7 hours, any and all vehicles trying to get onto State Street from Green or Columbia will be forced to use Columbia westbound for a long spell or turn off of Columbia at 6th to get back to State or continue on 6th.  This will happen so that the two new breweries can throw a party for visitors to get drunk and ogle one another's muscles and a street full of muscle cars!

Great idea!  We should do this more often!

I predict there will be at least two car "accidents" on Saturday due to the detour for the beer party in the 700 block of State Street.  Let's hope none of them involve pedestrians or cyclists!

Car shows should take place in parking lots, not on a busy and important street that is made off limits.  This is a beer party disguised as a car show.  But the mayor is all for it - anything to bring business to the tenants of his pals (and landlord) at Galvan!

Upper State Street/Galvanland is becoming less livable, more ugly and more commercialized by the month.  And Galvan's 4-million-unit apartment building with 9 tiny commercial spaces behind the Depot Brewery haven't even opened for business yet!  It's going to be awesome!  $8 and $9 Pints Of Beer!  Food Trucks Everywhere, some blocking the sidewalk!  Muscle cars!  Car crashes!  Ambulance Sirens!  Noise!  Rock and Roll!  Fun For The Whole Family!  Babes!  Dudes!  Drunks!  Drunk Drivers! Nowhere To Park!  Drunken Road Rage!  Thanks Galvan!  Thanks Kamal!  You are awesome!  Cheers To You Both!
