On Thursday, for the first time in at least 5 months, I noticed HPD officers speaking with a scruffy group of "patrons" at the 7th Street Park. It's typically a sign that it isn't winter when HPD is responding to calls of unwelcome behavior in the park (almost always in the portion of the park closest to the store where alcohol can be bought!). Hooray for no winter! Hooray for HPD in the park!
I was not surprised to see that Michael Madison was not one of the park "patrons" the pair of officers were talking to, because about two weeks ago I heard from someone with knowledge of Madison's whereabouts. According to this person, the park's most unwelcome "patron" is serving a ten-month jail sentence and is due to be released in May, when temperatures should be ideal for him to hang out in the park and have a beer or three and/or a bottle of vodka and some smokes then pass out on his bench, as HPD doesn't mind him to do. In the merry month of May and for at least the following 5 months, of course.
