The picture above was taken last October, at least a year and a half after I noticed the gaping hole in the base of the lamppost alongside the DMV building on North 6th Street. By any standards, with the clear exception of our $123,000 DPW Superintendent, the base to that lamppost on a city sidewalk in front of a historic city building has been damaged, ugly, dangerous (particularly to children) and, by allowing the elements to get to the wiring inside, damaging and compromising the functioning of the light itself for years. The light hasn't turned on in more than a year.
The pictures below were taken last week. Surprise, surprise -- notice how things have worsened. What part of Rob Perry's $123,000 salary do we pay him to ignore this year after year? And what part of Kamal Johnson $75,000 salary do we pay him to allow his DPW Superintendent to ignore this ugly, dangerous and unacceptable sight and situation year after year? And if Perry and Johnson are okay ignoring for years something as easy as this is to fix, what else do you suppose they are ignoring that they shouldn't be? Over $200,000 in salary between the two and we get this? Talk about broken!!!

Would this be acceptable in front of City Hall as well? |

Rob Perry did not put the stickers on every business district lamppost; National Grid did it for him. I'm sure he was thrilled to see them. Nothing annoys a slob more than someone telling him to clean up after himself. |
