Who Else But A Slob Allows This? (How About A Slob Who Peddles In Garbage?)

During his January DPW report to the Common Council, Rob Perry mentioned that he had purchased "some polycarbon" public trash receptacles to replace the "older style" wooden ones that have stood the test of time.  What Mr. Perry failed to mention was that the lids on his new receptacles are the same black metal lids as ever.  He justified the purchase and use of the new receptacles on our sidewalks by saying this:  "Hopefully they will be more resistant to vandalism."  The only problem with that explanation is that it is a crock of shit, because as anyone can plainly see, the vandalism that shows up on the receptacles can be found on the lids, almost never on the slats.

The new $1,030 plastic-slatted trash receptacles have the same black metal lids as the old wooden-slatted receptacles have had for several year, so for our $123,000 DPW Superintendent to claim that buying and installing new receptacles instead of refurbishing the wooden ones might put an end to the stickers and graffiti is complete nonsense bullshit.  Spending over $10,000 on ten new trash receptacles isn't going to stop the "vandalism" if they also have lids, whatever color or material they are made of, is it?  Of course it isn't!  But it will allow Rob Pery to justify increasing his budget next year to buy more plastic-slatted trash receptacles with metal lids that will be covered in paint and graffiti just as readily as his public trash receptacles always have been.  It will allow Rob to justify spending money on new plastic receptacles (the manufacturer does not refer to them as being made of "polycarbon") rather than refurbishing the wooden-slatted ones that have been around for decades.  It will allow Rob to continue to ignore the insulting, damaged, eyesore vandalized lids on top of the wooden-slatted "old style" receptacles until he can replace them with plastic ones.

He spent $10,000 on "some garbage cans", told us things would be better for the residents of Hudson because of it, and guess what?  Once again, he shoveled us garbage.  He has no shame, and the council never calls him out on his bullshit.

New plastic slats replacing natural wood.
Same old lid ready for the vandals.

Here are pictures of a few of the new $1,030 plastic-slatted trash receptacles that have already been stickered and tagged, also known as being vandalized.  Notice that none of the vandalism is on the plastic slats Perry claimed would deter it.  The receptacles you see in these pictures cost us over $1,000 each, black metal lid and all!

ONE THOUSAND THIRTY DOLLARS EACH!

Obviously resistant to vandalism
HUDseen will revisit these receptacles later in the year to see how well THE BLACK METAL LIDS have resisted the vandalism that our DPW Superintendent is so repulsed by and so eager to rid the city of!

If Mr. Perry gets his way, soon enough his ten new $1,030 plastic public trash receptacles with black metal lids will resemble the one near REV that he has allowed his department (including his foremen) to ignore for years.  Why would anyone think that our DPW is going to treat a plastic-slatted public trash receptacle with a black metal lid any differently than the way they have been ignoring this well-vandalized wooden-slatted receptacle with the cracked, tagged, stickered and rusted black metal lid on top?

Wood slats, plastic slats, the vandals don't
give a shit.  As long as it has a lid, even if that
lid has been falling apart for years!
Isn't this what Rob Perry wants to see less of?

Welcome to the city where people from all over the world come to visit and where taxes are going through the roof.
