"Slow Drivers Down"? In Hudson? On Front Street?

That's what Luizzi's safety employee told me this morning that the three arrows now found at the intersection of Front & Warren are intended to do.  Yes, to "slow drivers down!"  I didn't see any vehicles slowing down or hitting the brakes as they went through the intersection.

I asked the vested and helmeted worker whose idea it was to put the arrows on the street.

"DOT, it's DOT," was all she could say.

She didn't seem any more convinced than I was that those arrows will slow even one driver down.  She, like me, probably knows that arrows painted on a street tend to mean GO, not SLOW DOWN.  And arrows that only point straight ahead tend to mean GO STRAIGHT, DO NOT TURN.  PROCEED STRAIGHT AHEAD AND DO NOT SLOW DOWN.  ACCELERATE IF YOU LIKE.  JUST KEEP MOVING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND THE PEDESTRIAN CROSSWALKS. GO, GOD DAMMMIT, GO!!! STOP LOOKING AT THE ARROW AND WONDERING WHAT IT IS THERE FOR AND GET MOVING!  IGNORE ANY STOP SIGNS AND GO STRAIGHT AHEAD!  DO NOT STOP!  DO NOT SLOW DOWN!
