Guns & Cotton Candy: A Public Opinion Survey

Q:  Do you feel that it is appropriate, as I witnessed Saturday, for a uniformed police officer to be conspicuously armed with a large service pistol in a hip holster while serving free cotton candy at a festival primarily to children of color?

Do you feel that this is acceptable, regardless of what food an HPD officer is serving and to whom they are serving it to?

Do you feel that the Hudson Police Department should be encouraging children to eat unhealthy, 100% sugar, nutrition-free "food" such as cotton candy at festivals and other public gatherings, particularly to children on the lower economic strata who may already have a difficult time staying away from cheap, processed foods and sweets and who may not have access to adequate or good dental care?

How much time and money should the Hudson Police Department be spending on being able to make cotton candy to hand out to children?

Do you feel it would send a positive message to all residents of the city, particularly those on the margins, if the Hudson Police Department were to offer children a choice between sweets such as cotton candy and healthy, nutritious alternatives such as local fruits free of food coloring which contain natural sugars at much lower levels than the unnatural processed sugar found in cotton candy?

Please submit your responses to Hudson Police Chief Mishanda Franklin at 518-828-3388, or hpdchief@hudsonpoliceny.org
