There hasn't been much, if anything, to laugh about over DPW's recent efforts to paint our street curbs yellow, but this might be the exception.
The DPW curb painting crew recently surrounded the entrance/exit to the City Hall parking lot on Columbia Street with 4 short lines of yellow paint. The street curb got two spots and, on the other side of the sidewalk, the curb for the lot got two spots, all in the bright yellow meant to signify NO PARKING ALLOWED HERE!But in their zeal to do whatever they were trying to accomplish with their yellow spray paint (likely as an alert to drivers to enter and exit the lot safely), the crew painted at least half of the curb yellow directly in front of one metered parking space. The message is clear: DO NOT PARK YOUR GODDAMN CAR IN THIS HALF OF THIS METERED PARKING SPACE. OR ELSE!

| The meter and the faded lines say it's a parking space (it is, and it is regularly parked in!). What does the yellow curb say? Maybe it's a space? Don't take a chance? |
Of course, this is a few feet away from where a $10,000 parking kiosk was installed on the sidewalk a few weeks ago and is still partially covered in a clear plastic bag patiently waiting to do something useful for the city (as in increase parking revenues!!!). One wonders if the officials at HPD now responsible for parking matters signed off on DPW's curb yellowing efforts in the lot. The parking shitshow has already begun, folks, and it's only going to get better. You watch!
