Go Ahead, You Can Park There! Like So Many Other Fire Hydrants In Town, It's Been Out Of Service For Years!

Last Friday afternoon, parking space lines were painted on both sides of the freshly installed asphalt in front of Galvan's nearly complete and completely regrettable apartment building at 76 North 7th Street.

Ever since two and a half years ago when Galvan made their three perfectly good houses on the west side of the street disappear to make way for their failed second of two planned apartment buildings on the block, there hasn't been much need for a working fire hydrant on that side of the street.  (How fucking sad of a statement is that?)  However, one wonders if the forlorn, out-of-service fire hydrant still there (and still missing its top) will ever be able to assist in putting out a fire in the huge building that is now 50 feet away directly across the street (not to mention the three houses further north on 7th across from the Firestation).  Will Rob Perry see to it that the unnecessary and out-of-service fire hydrant remains there doing nothing but continuing to rust and get peed on?  If snow completely covers the useless hydrant, will DPW be sure to uncover it so that, let's say, a child doesn't jump on it unwittingly and die of head trauma?  Is the hydrant owned by Galvan or the city/DPW?  Is it possible that Rob Perry finally returns the hydrant to usefulness, forcing at least one parking space line to disappear to make way for a NO PARKING/FIRE ZONE while removing two precious parking spaces that Galvan is desperate for?

There's only one city official who can answer all these dumb questions. The one who, according to his own clerks, can "never" be found inside City Hall.  Not even during informal Common Council meetings.

Do you suppose our $123,000 DPW Superintendent
approved this?

Does Rob Perry even have a plan for
this out-of-service fire hydrant?  Has he
ever had one?

March of 2024, just prior to
swapping the bag for a respectable out-of-service
tag after my repeated complaints about the bag.
