First, I noticed the thick, freshly broken tree branch at the edge of the truck route just west of 6th Street, an obvious result of the sidewalk work happening across the street that had narrowed the street to one lane for a few hours yesterday.
Then I watched this...

| At about this point, I heard the loud sound of a tree branch snapping. Branches and leaves were already all over the street and sidewalk. |

| One of many tractor trailers being driven yesterday where cars are typically parked. No cars were in its way, but three trees were, all with quite thick AND HEAVY branches! |
Rob Perry's DPW -- not property owners -- is responsible for trimming tree branches found above the plane of city streets and alleys. Failure to do so, particularly along the truck route, shows that Perry really doesn't care about the look of the city, the health of our sidewalk trees or the safety of our streets. I'm sure that if he were asked what tree trimming his department has been up to lately along the truck route, our DPW Superintendent would respond, "We're doing the best we can." Which would be little to nothing.
