Did Sean Roland and Gabe Katz, the developers behind the Pocketbook Hudson Hotel and Baths, inform the Hudson Planning Board four years ago that they would need to install a manhole cover on their new sidewalk at the corner or 6th & Prospect, at the southeast corner of the building? Was this detail included in the Pocketbook's site plans that were ultimately approved by the Planning Board?
Did the developers inform Rob Perry that a large manhole cover needed to be located directly in the middle of the sidewalk and that it would readily trap rainwater and snow melt and turn to a rusty mess within a month of being installed? How about Craig Haigh at Code Enforcement, did Sean and Gabe inform him of this wonderful news last summer? Did either one of these city officials give Gabe and Sean the permission to install a large manhole cover on the sidewalk, which is a rare sight in Hudson?
If a developer were to install a manhole cover in your neighborhood -- perhaps in front of the house or building next door -- taking up most of the sidewalk that you walk on daily and that you would have a difficult time not stepping on, would you wonder why it was there? If you soon noticed that the manhole cover turned to rust because it was nearly always wet, who would you talk to about it? Your Common Council ward representatives? If you slipped on the icy manhole cover during a cold spell and cracked your head open on the sidewalk and never came out of your coma, who would you direct your complaints to? Kamal Johnson or Joe Ferris? Rob Perry or Craig Haigh? Sean Roland and Gabe Katz? No one?

| Why is this cover covered in rust all the time? And why does it trap water so readily? |
Here is a Google Maps screenshot from 2019 of the corner that shows no manhole cover on the sidewalk.
It's worth remembering what HUDseen pointed out several weeks ago: the new sidewalk along 6th Street that Sean and Gabe gave the people of Hudson -- from the rusty manhole cover at Prospect to Washington -- is one long code violation. Sidewalks are required to be 5 feet wide. Sean and Gabe (and their engineer) gave us a 4-foot-wide sidewalk. With a rusty manhole cover at the bottom of the hill. Go fucking figure!
