Why Isn't This Picture Found On The City's Website?

Oh, wait a minute!  It is found on the city's website.  In fact, it can easily be found on the Hudson Police Department's page of the City of Hudson website.  Not on the DPW page, mind you, but on the HPD page!

Recently added to HPD's webpage, found near the picture of the HPD cruiser surrounded by spray-painted potholes, are Weekly Incident and Arrest Logs. The Incident Log is interesting to peruse, showing what HPD is responding to and spending time on, though not much in the way of details are offered.  For instance, there are several so-called incidents referred to as "HPD Snow Removal" and "HPD Foil Request" included in the present log.  (How is a Freedom of Information Law request considered an incident?)  Oddly, I saw no incidents listed that had anything to do with parking kiosks, parking signs related to kiosks and pay-by-phone parking, municipal parking lots or posting updates to HPD's Fackebook page regarding delays of their plan to resume paid parking someday, all issues that HPD (including Chief Franklin) is spending time on.   Lots of time.  And effort.  And money.  Lots of effort and money, too.

HPD's Arrest Log -- what is commonly referred to as a police blotter -- includes the names of arrestees as well as the reasons ("statute description") for their arrests.  However, nowhere on the page does it indicate the fundamental legal principle (and courtesy to all arrestees) that all readers should first be made aware and reminded of: that arrestees are presumed to be innocent of their crimes until found guilty before a judge in Hudson City Court or Columbia County Court.  This omission -- possibly intentional -- is shameful, but not one bit surprising.  At least one of the six currently listed arrests was for a violation, not a crime (Harassment 2nd Degree: Physical Contact).  Will HPD be including every violation summons they issue on their weekly Arrest Log?  Or just some of them?

Here is a recent NY State Police blotter, taken from the wonderful news website reporting from across the Hudson River, Porcupine Soup. Read the introduction at the top that is in bold letters!  (Click on it to largen.)

By the way, Police Chief Mishanda Franklin is posting her updates regarding HPD's progress on resuming downtown paid parking only on her department's Fakebook page, not in the ANNOUNCEMENT section on the main page of the city's official website.  The only Hudson residents able to read our police chief's important parking updates "to the community" need to be regularly visiting HPD's FB page.

Sometimes it feels like HPD prefers to have nothing to do with City Hall.  Are they working together or not at all?
