If this wouldn't be acceptable for one day along the sidewalks at the CSX crossings on both sides of Warren Street, then why, for at least the past several years, does Hudson City Hall find it acceptable on Columbia and on State every fucking winter after every snowfall?
The picture below of the CSX crossing on the north sidewalk of Columbia Street was taken the day after the snowstorm two weeks ago. All of that snow is still there completely blocking (not just covering) the sidewalk and still forcing all pedestrians -- including children, the disabled and the elderly -- to be inconvenienced and to risk their lives by walking in the busy street known as the truck route. It's been two fucking weeks of this! At least on State Street we have the option of risking our lives in the street or on the sidewalk where 75 feet or so of untouched snow and uneven, wavy, footprinted ice has been covering (and walked on) the sidewalk along CSX property for the past two weeks and will likely continue to be for a week or two more. Pick your death, fool! It's a never-ending fool's errand that I and so many others have been forced to deal with for years! After every fucking snowfall! Maybe City Hall wants us all to feel like fools -- dead, injured or brain-dead fools! Don't send us your hospital or ambulance ride bill! Go to hell, it's not our problem! Walk on Warren Street next time! Sue CSX and be more careful, fool! Oh, you say your daughter was run over by a truck next to a mound of snow blocking the sidewalk? We are so very, very sorry to hear that. Please accept our condolences and have a nice, safe day!
While Craig Haigh was our head Code Enforcement Officer, do you think he ever cared about any of the perennial sidewalk code violation issues with CSX's crossings? Was it even on his list of priorities? (At least one resident made him aware of the CSX violations on multiple occasions beginning several years ago!) Did Craig ever once reach out to CSX in Florida about snow and ice surrounding their rail crossings for weeks in downtown Hudson, NY? How will we ever know? Does CEO or DPW even have a local contact person at CSX they can get to quickly? Did Craig ever once send CSX a violation notice, possibly with a fine attached? Will Craig's successor continue to do nothing about this? And for how many more years will there continue to be the lingering doubt that City Hall actually gives a shit about resident pedestrians and the disabled just trying to get somewhere and back without slipping on an icy sidewalk and winding up in the hospital or getting run over by a truck and winding up in the morgue after having no other option but to walk in the fucking street for 50 or 75 feet or more for two, three or more fucking weeks in the winter?
How much longer can this dangerous idiocy go on? This is not a CSX problem (they're just one of the worst violators). It's a City Hall problem that they show no interest in dealing with. EVER! What are Mayor Joe Ferris and his ADA Coordinator/Aide going to do, if anything, about the CSX crossings full of snow and ice while they wait to hire a replacement for Craig? What will they do about the persistent issues with unsafe and impassable CSX crossings after every snowfall, especially after snowstorms that CEO can't or won't deal with? Will they find it acceptable and wait for spring to arrive, just like their predecessors (including the current Mayor's Aide) did over and over? Will they do nothing other than hope that their new head Code Enforcement Officer -- if and when he or she arrives -- will find the time, ability and will to put an end to this nonsense once and for all? Will they hope no one gets killed in the street, knowing that if someone does, then they will be forced to act and explain and possibly deal with a lawsuit? Is our ADA Coordinator really waiting for someone (or a mother and child or two) to be run over by a car or truck while walking in or crossing the street at night because snow and ice had been COMPLETELY BLOCKING the sidewalk for over two weeks? Is the only scenario that is going to force the city to solve this ON-GOING PROBLEM for good going to come when a Hudson resident or three finally wind up in the morgue or on life support because CSX has no interest in clearing their crossings after every snowfall and City Hall is perfectly fine with them doing so?
This is no way to properly run a city, especially one as small as Hudson! This has to end! But who will end it?
