Thank Goodness HPD Is Part of The Common Council's New SAFETY Committee! They're Going To Have To Justify The Unjustifiable, Defend The Indefensible and Explain The Inexplicable!

All the new scannable paid parking signs that DPW attached to the top of meter poles on side streets and Columbia Street this week are facing parking spaces in the street, not the sidewalk. NOT ONE OF THE SIGNS IS FACING THE SIDEWALK THEY ARE FOUND ON.  FACING THE SIDEWALKS ARE THE BLANK BACKS OF PARKING SIGNS MEANT TO ALLOW DRIVERS TO EASILY AND QUICKLY PAY FOR THEIR PARKING SPACES.

Why didn't the geniuses at HPD have the same approach with the parking signs on the streetlight poles along Warren?  Can you imagine?

Before HPD's "great parking change," * when parking meters were on the top of poles along sidewalks, no one was forced to stand in the street to feed a meter to pay for a parking space.  That would have been unacceptable, right?  That would have made Hudson a laughingstock, right?  That wouldn't have lasted one day, would it have?  That would have been obscene, stupid and dangerous, right?  That would have pissed people off, right?

IF EVERYONE ONCE HAD TO STAND ON THE SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF A PARKING METER TO PAY FOR THEIR PARKING SPACE, WHY DID HPD DECIDE THAT NOW PEOPLE PAYING FOR A PARKING SPACE ON CERTAIN STREETS SHOULD INSTEAD HAVE TO STAND IN THE STREET TO DO SO????  IN THE STREET!  NOT ON THE SIDEWALK BUT STANDING NEAR TRAFFIC AND IN BETWEEN PARKED VEHICLES (ONE WHICH MIGHT BE MOVING, INCLUDING BACKING UP) TRYING TO READ AND SCAN A SMALL SIGN ON THE TOP OF A PARKING METER POLE THAT IS BEYOND THE CURB ON THE SIDEWALK!  THAT IS, OF COURSE, IF THEY CAN GET NEAR THE SIGN SAFELY OR AT ALL!

Can you think of anything more moronic than this?  When will all this nonsense related to our great parking change end?  When will the new paid parking system be fully in place so that HPD can concentrate on law enforcement, as they are expected and paid to do?  In the year 2036?

* Soon into his parking update (or "breakdown," as he called it) at Monday's first meeting of the Common Council's new SAFETY COMMITTEE (!), HPD Captain David Miller said that HPD's "parking change is running great."  Is that so?
