Warmer Weather And Shrinking Sidewalks Are Finally Here!

That was two weeks ago (and for the past several months).

This was yesterday (and for the following several months)....

By the way, the driver of the Jeep Wrangler who ran over a city resident in the crosswalk on Park Place at Warren in the dark on December 18th of last year -- just beyond the group of people in the picture -- was not issued even one traffic violation ticket by responding HPD officers.  HPD did not issue the driver a FAILURE TO YIELD RIGHT OF WAY TO PEDESTRIAN (VTL 1151) ticket!  Whether or not you fail to kill a pedestrian (or even fail to hit them) by failing to yield to their right of way in a crosswalk or elsewhere, VTL 1151 is a moving violation that can carry 3-points on a driver's license and a fine of up to $400 in New York State.

The driver who ran over a city resident in a crosswalk and broke her leg so badly that she required two surgeries apparently did no wrong.  It was the victim's fault that she was run over by a turning vehicle with no stop sign, stop light or flashing pedestrian crossing signal to see.  (The crosswalk on Warren at Park has a pedestrian flashing signal at each end that anyone can engage.  The crosswalk perpendicular to that signalized crosswalk -- at the same busy, dangerous intersection at a turn in the truck route -- has nothing to keep pedestrians from being run over.  This is pure stupidity and carelessness on Hudson City Hall's part.)

And, perhaps more concerning, no one from HPD -- the chief, the captain -- has bothered to mention December's nearly fatal vehicle "accident" involving a pedestrian during any of this year's three SAFETY Committee meetings.  And the chair of the SAFETY Committee, Henry Haddad, is fine with that.  As he should be.

SAFETY Committee, my ass!  All they do is talk.  About parking.  We have been hijacked by vehicles.

I tried my best to listen to the video (it's not at all easy) of the most recent Legal Committee meeting.  (Holy Snoresville, Batman!)  I'm pretty sure that at least 3/4 of the meeting was concerned with parking matters.
