A "Valuable Addition To Our Community"? Is That So, mayor Ferris?

Without mayor Ferris's support for "micromobility" as a "valuable addition to our community," these two children may not have been able to ride rented electric scooters on Saturday morning on the wrong side of State Street from 6th to 7th without helmets protecting their brains.  For most people, the rented scooters are regarded as mere playthings, and traffic laws, stop signs and red lights are to be ignored.  Just the "valuable addition to our community" that we need right now.

Also on Saturday, I saw more people riding electric scooters and electric bikes illegally and dangerously than I've ever seen in one day.  By far.  Of course, riding a scooter or bike on a sidewalk is far more of a danger to pedestrians than it is to the rider.  The rider won't die or be badly injured if they run into someone (or a few people) walking on the sidewalk or crossing the street.

Our city is becoming less walkable, not more!

Don't worry, though, because Margaret Morris hopes to have HPD teach local schoolchildren about riding e-scooters and bikes safely and properly.  The mayor promotes the insanity while the Common Council president tries her best to put an end to it.

It's a lovely dance, isn't it?
