I took the first two pictures on July 2nd and July 4th. They show a portion of the "walkway" that leads from the sidewalk to the front porch and doors of the 2-family house at 80 - 86 North 6th Street, a property owned and lived in by Hudson's second highest paid city employee.* Presumably, there is a mailbox or two near the front doors. Maybe even a doorbell or two that work. This wide property is along my regular walks to and from Oakdale Park and elsewhere.
In case you haven't read HUDseen's article from February about HPD Captain David Miller's property (and sidewalk), I suggest you do. Here it is: Foxes Guarding The Henhouse
Today in the rain, I took the following three pictures of David Miller's property. When vegetation gets rained on, especially unmaintained hedges, it tends to sag. And stay wet for a long time. Apparently, Miller can't afford to buy a pair of hedge clippers. Or he doesn't see the need to.
What route to and from the house do you suppose the mail carrier chooses every day?

A few years ago, when I was campaigning door to door to get on the ballot to become a council member, this was exactly the type of house and property I would avoid. My thinking was, "Why bother? If someone lives here, they couldn't possibly give a shit about Hudson or their neighbors. It's obvious they don't want visitors. I'll probably get shot or attacked by a dog anyway. No thank you, it's not worth it."
The next time you come across a property (or several!) in town that is a disgrace or unmaintained to the point of ugliness and unwelcomeness, including a dangerous sidewalk (possibly full of snow and ice!), ask yourself the following question. "Is it possible that the problem, at least in part, is coming from City Hall?"

In a recent email to me (and cc'd to most council members) having to do with his property at 80 - 86 North 6th, Captain David Miller referred to it as "my home." Miller wrote, "This is your final notice to stop following me to my home. Your actions, including showing up to my residence at 4:30 pm are inappropriate and alarming. This behavior will not be tolerated."Yikes! That's my neighbor, the guy with a gun or two (or more). I really should stick to the other side of the street! And I suggest you do, too!
