Insightful Information That Our Police Chief and The So-Called SAFETY Committee Apparently Don't Want Any Of Us To Be Aware Of!

Listed below is what just about anyone would regard as important Hudson Police Department activity data covering the month of May 2026.  Except, it seems, for our own police chief. In her (yet again) ridiculously brief so-called HPD report at last month's meeting of the so-called SAFETY Committee, Mishanda Franklin didn't mention any data related to crime and quality of life issues, what her department is doing to prevent crime, what her department is spending time doing, nor if there are any concerning crime and quality of life issue trends in Hudson.  Apparently, everything is fine in town and there is nothing to worry about.  Hooray for us! 

With a few exceptions, what follows is data related to crime and quality of life issues I chose from the 33 pages of HPD's own Incident Report for May which I received in response to a FOIL request, data which our police chief isn't at all interested in talking about. Her silence makes this abundantly clear.  She'd rather tell the committee and the public how often her officers apply Narcan to overdose victims the previous month (data which, by the way, is not included in the monthly reports) than mention how many burglaries officers responded to, how many police officers were injured and what the circumstances were, or how many assaults there were, how severe they were, or if any of them were random acts committed on city residents.   Of course, members of the so-called SAFETY Committee are complicit in the lack of information and the lack of accountability coming from Chief Franklin -- they are all perfectly fine with her silence.  Ignorance is bliss, especially when you don't care about truth and reality or improving life in your little city.

The number indicates the number of times HPD responded to each issue (aka, "incident").   When you are done reading the list, ask yourself the following question.  Do Chief Franklin, Margaret Morris, Henry Haddad, Dominic Merante, Claire Cousin and everyone else on the Common Council care about any of this information?

1 HPD Employee Injury (It's true that Chief Franklin made no mention of this incident which took place on Union Street about noon on May 1st.  What do you suppose the extent of the officer's injury or injuries were and what were the circumstances surrounding the incident?  Was the officer shot?  Is he or she back on the job?  If the officer had been killed, would Chief Franklin have made reference to the death of one of her officers?)

5  Open Door/Window.  4 of those incidents took place on Warren Street -- three of them at night and one on a Sunday morning -- and I'm almost certain that each one of them was the result of a phone call I made to HPD informing them that the rear gate door to the flat roof of City Hall was still unlocked.   This is the gate door that Rob Perry and his clerks use to access the DPW offices via an outside door that leads to and from the roof.

For at least the 25th time in the past few months, last night at I called HPD to inform them that the same gate door to the rear roof of City Hall was once again unlocked.  About two months ago, Sargeant Nicholas Hodges told me on the phone that he had recently talked to Rob Perry about the unlocked door but that "HPD can't control what City Hall does with their doors."   Hodges also confirmed to me that he had talked to Perry about the unlocked door last year after I made calls to HPD.

Our so-called mayor, Joe Ferris, has been aware of the always unlocked door to his City Hall for at least two months.  He doesn't care, either.  It's probably not a big deal, actually.  There is no crime to speak of in Hudson anyway, is there?

I think it is worth noting that there were no HPD Internal Investigations during the month of May.  I suppose it's possible there were on-going investigations during the month, though without any that were started.

*  There was a time for about 18 months prior to 2026 during informal council meetings when Chief Franklin would mention any vehicle incidents involving pedestrians or bicyclists that had occurred the previous month. The only reason she did mention such data was because council member Vicky Daskaloudi asked her to.  However, once she was given the opportunity to stop mentioning incidents involving pedestrians and cyclists being struck by vehicles, Chief Franklin made it happen.  Do you think Margaret Morris, Henry Haddad or Claire Cousin care or even know that Chief Franklin once felt compelled to mention such incidents?  (At least Morris should remember!)
