No, Bob! Not Good Boy! Bad Boy! Bad Boy, Bob! Very Bad Boy! Bob!

 

The latest iteration of the coffee shop at 35 South 3rd Street seems to have no problem with leaving their black A-frame sign at 3rd & Warren overnight.  It's such a wonderful addition to the city, isn't it? Of course, the sign doesn't include the hours of operation, but what does Bob care?  On Sunday night at 6 pm when I came across that sign for the first time, Bob had been closed for an hour.

Then, of course, there's the other black sidewalk sign of theirs to contend with, this one out front of 35 South 3rd, protecting people from stepping on the raised seam of the sidewalk and falling to the ground or stumbling into the street and being run over by a speeding semi headed for the bridge trying to beat the red light.

Head Code Enforcement Officer Nick Fox recently mentioned something at a public meeting that I was aware of but had never heard his predecessor, Craig Haigh, mention.  That is, that businesses cannot have signs of any kind more than 100 feet from their location.  Ha! Good luck with that one, Nick!

But what about a business sign left directly in front of a business and directly in the middle of the fucking sidewalk?  Is that not a code violation?  Is that not both a quality-of-life and a safety issue worth pursuing?  Why, of course not!
