Then and NOW!

May 16th...

... to September 13th.

When a contractor wants to leave a dumpster or machinery on any city street -- in any number of spaces, whether they be "metered" or not -- they are expected to pay $25 to be issued a PARKING PERMIT by the Hudson Police Department that will expire in two weeks.  Any and all subsequent two-week renewals of the permit will cost the contractor just $10.  TEN DOLLARS FOR 14 MORE DAYS, EVEN IF METERED PARKING SPACES ON WARREN STREET ARE BEING OCCUPIED BY AN ENORMOUS METAL BOX THAT RARELY FITS INTO A DELINEATED PARKING SPACE!  Typically, our police chief signs HPD's PARKING PERMITS.  Law enforcement in action!  The pen is mightier than the pistol!

I have no idea when the first dumpster arrived in front of 537 Warren (March? April? May?), but there has been one there since at least May 16th. (How cold was it that day?)  If everyone's been paying attention and doing/paying what they were supposed to be doing/paying regarding the series of dumpsters that have been there for the past 16 weeks, the city should be all of $95 richer for it.  Leave a lovely dumpster and maybe a lovely piece of machinery in 1, 2, 3, or 4 metered parking spaces on Warren Street for four months and you won't even have to pay the city $100!  We'll even give you $5 change for a FRANKLIN!  And you won't believe the savings you'll amnass if you leave your dumpster for another 4 and 8 months!  The sky is the limit!  Johnny, who's our next lucky contractor to play LET'S MAKE A DUMPSTER DEAL?

A $10 two-week "dumpster" permit renewal is Hudson City Hall's and HPD's way of telling contractors to TAKE AS LONG THE HELL AS YOU WANT WITH YOUR DUMPSTER!  WE DON'T CARE HOW MANY MONTHS YOU OCCUPY OUR METERED SPACES OR HOW MANY SPACES YOU OCCUPY.  WE ALSO DON'T CARE IF YOU DON'T PUT ANYTHING IN YOUR DUMPSTER FOR WEEKS OR IF IT REMAINS FULL OR EMPTY FOR DAYS OR WEEKS.  THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO RUSH; WE DON'T NEED THOSE SPACES FOR CARS RIGHT NOW NOR FOR THE UNFORESEEABLE FUTURE.  JUST DON'T FORGET TO COME BACK TO THE STATION IN TWO WEEKS WITH YOUR TEN DOLLAR BILL SO THAT THE POLICE CHIEF CAN SIGN OFF ON YOUR DUMPSTER EXTENSION.  BUT, PLEASE, DON'T LINGER AT THE STATION TOO LONG (no chit chat) -- SHE'S GOT CRIMINALS TO APPREHEND AND OFFICERS TO KEEP AN EYE ON.

*  One parking space or five, the price is the same.  One metered parking space or five, the price is the same.  PAY ONE PRICE!
