This past Wednesday at 1:45 in the afternoon, just 48 hours after last Monday's HUDseen article showing the Fire Department's and DPW's absurd, obscene, and hypocritical approach to out of service fire hydrants, I came across a DPW Water Department crew of three repairing a long out of service hydrant on the sidewalk adjacent to the south side of Bliss Towers and across Columbia Street from another very large apartment building. Can you imagine?
I was told by a friendly crew member that they had already repaired two long out of service hydrants nearby on State Street that day: the one on the other side of Bliss (it was flanked by them!!!!!), and the one in the middle of the 200 block of State Street that I had mentioned in the article. Apparently, it didn't take more than a few hours to put those two hydrants back in service for the Fire Department to access in case of a fire. A fire that never gives any warning to anyone. Can you imagine?
The question is: WHO TOLD ROB PERRY TO GET THIS DONE? AND WHAT DO YOU SUPPOSE WERE THE FIRST THINGS OUT OF ROB'S MOUTH WHEN HE WAS TOLD TO IMMEDIATLEY BEGIN FIXING OUT OF SERVICE HYDRANTS? WAS IT "YES, SIR!"? OR WAS IT "WHY SHOULD I?"?

The friendly crew member also told me that there were "about 20 out of service fire hydrants throughout the city." If memory serves me well, 3 or 4 years ago when Mohammed Rony asked Mr. Perry when the out of service hydrant in the middle of the 200 block of State was going to be fixed, he dismissed Rony's concern by saying there were plenty of working hydrants nearby and that there were only about 10 out of service hydrants throughout the city.
ONLY! Can you imagine?
What you have to understand is that the rot inside City Hall is deep and well-aged; it is part of the infrastructure, I'm afraid. Even Henry Haddad, chair of the so-called SAFETY Committee, recently weighed in on the out of service hydrant issue (only after I brought it up) by saying that if the Hudson Fire Department was okay with inoperable fire hydrants (which they repeatedly stated they were), then so was he. (Go ahead, take some time to laugh.) Greenport resident and fraudster "council member representing the 2nd ward" had the same thing to say, though with poorer diction. Neither the fraudster, his second ward partner Mohammed Rony, nor safety guru Henry Haddad got any useless so-called fire hydrants in the second ward fixed last week. I did. I can only imagine how disappointed they are with me meddling in their affairs.
Can you imagine? Sure you can!!! After all, this is Hudson, NY, where nothing makes much sense anymore. In a country that has lost its way in a world gone berserk.
