Setting a fine example

Let them rot!

These two attached houses at the corner of N. 5th and Prospect Streets comprise one property known as 70-72 N. 5th Street, owned by the Galvan Initiatives Fund since 2012.

In the 9 years I have lived in Hudson, all in close proximity to the houses, I have never once seen anyone working on the inside or outside of the houses.  Nobody has ever lived there.  The roof is in horrible condition and it would come as no surprise if it has been leaking water into both houses for years.

It's a good thing Galvan is too busy with all its other projects to make these two formerly useful houses habitable.  It's a good thing Galvan won't let anyone else own these houses... perhaps  people interested in living in them.  Or someone interested in fixing them up and allowing others to actually live in them.

It's a good thing there are controls in place at the Code Enforcement Department preventing Galvan from allowing these houses to continue to rot, to become even more of an eyesore in this otherwise respectable neighborhood, and from having to be demolished due to decades of neglect.

The property was assessed last year for $290,000, and it is not tax-exempt.
