3 Months And Just 5 Speeding Tickets?

We've all seen our share of dangerous drivers and automobile accidents here in Hudson, and there is much discussion about the topic of our dangerous streets.  But how busy is the Hudson Police Department with the drivers out there breaking traffic laws, and what are they finding?  I received the list of traffic tickets that HPD issued during 2 months of last year, and I think it's interesting to see the type and number of tickets HPD issued, as well as what they did not issue.

HPD issued a total of 51 traffic tickets (excluding speeding drivers) for the month of October 2022, everything from drunk drivers to inadequate lights.  At City Court lately, I have been struck by the number of people coming before Judge Connor with a ticket for driving without a license, usually referred to as Aggravated Unlicensed Operation (AUO) 3rd (or 2nd), a misdemeanor.  HPD issued 14 AUO tickets last October.  Makes one wonder how many unlicensed drivers are really out there.

The regularity with which I see vehicles running red lights and stop signs never ceases to frighten me.  HPD handed out 14 of those tickets last October.

What shocked me most about the list of traffic tickets was the fact that HPD issued no tickets on 11 of the 31 days in October.  A third of the month's days, including the first 4 days, and HPD found no one driving illegally.  On 6 days, HPD found just one driver worthy of a traffic ticket.

September 2022 saw HPD issue a total of 58 traffic violation tickets, including 13 for failure to stop at a red light or stop sign, and 12 for AUO.  12 days saw no traffic tickets issued.

During those two months, not one ticket was issued to a truck driver for straying off of the truck route.

I also received the list of speeding tickets issued by HPD during the month of October.  Exactly one speeding ticket was issued for the entire month -- on the 22nd, to a speeder on Union Street.  That seems odd to me, given that Chief Moore claimed at a public meeting last year that the HPD radar gun was not able to be used on any downtown streets, including Union.

I also received a list of speeding tickets issued by HPD for the first 3 months of this year.  There were only 5 drivers given tickets for speeding.  3 MONTHS, 5 SPEEDING TICKETS ISSUED.
