National Grid's contractor has been busy this week tearing into Green Street to replace gas lines. The trench is about 20 inches wide and goes from near Fairview Avenue (at Stewart's) all the way to State Street. For at least two days, traffic has been one way at the bend in Green Street, so there are backups. No parking is allowed on Green Street during the week. This is a major infrastructure project that DPW Superintendent Robert Perry is well aware of, but that DPW is not physically involved with.
Robert Perry made no mention of National Grid's gas line replacement project in his DPW monthly report this past Monday night. He made no mention of how long the Green Street project, or any other National Grid projects, would last. Nothing. There is also no mention of the project on the city's website. Nothing about traffic disruptions and delays or parking changes. It's so bizarre.
Green Street, from Frederick to State, was repaved about 20 months ago |
National Grid, after several weeks and without the assistance of a contractor, is still working on their gas line replacement project in the entire 200 block of State Street. There was never any mention of this project, either, not on the city website nor at a meeting. No one was working there today, a Friday.
