It's not just that this plastic cover is on its side on the sidewalk exposing electric wires to any curious child's fingers and everyone's eyes. The bigger issue is the fact that for years the cover, as ugly as it is, has not actually been secured to the concrete, thus allowing it to fall or be pushed over. So, you see, this had to happen. DPW allowed it to happen. DPW made it happen.
The wires were obviously once used to power a street lamp. Why the hell hasn't someone removed the wires altogether (whether they are still live or not) and covered the hole with concrete instead of just trying their best to cover the wires and forget about the issue? At some point the cover has outlived its useful life, right? What decade was that in? At some point the underlying issue needs to be taken care of, right? What decade will that take place in?
Where in City Hall does this lazy, stupid, unsafe, irresponsible, unprofessional and disrespectful we-don't-care lack of attention come from?
If DPW can't take care of something as simple as this, what else are they not attending to that they should be?Update, 8/24: The day after the article went to press, the cover was upright. This morning, 48 hours later, it was once again fallen over.
