What "Work?" What "Progress?" What "Community?"

It's so reassuring to see that Galvan's "work in progress" hotel/restaurant/bar project is moving right along well over a year after the Planning Board gave them the green light for their plans at 4th & Warren.

At least 3 weeks ago, I noticed that a battered old panel at the ground level of one of the buildings had fallen onto the sidewalk.  Thanks to light bulbs shining inside all the time (strangely), the opening offers a glimpse into a basement always filled with water at least a few inches deep, as well as an idea of what Galvan means when they offer words like "work" and "progress" and doing good things "for the community."  (I'm no building inspector, but I'm thinking that this basement sure could use one.)

I'm also pretty sure that Galvan's half block of sidewalk there on 4th Street, from Warren to Prison Alley, is the longest dirt-and-gravel-covered section of sidewalk in the entire city, certainly anywhere near Warren Street.  The fallen wall panel and ripped plastic sheeting that Galvan has been too busy to notice and replace (work! progress!) really complement their lovely sidewalk, don't you think?  Oh, if everyone were as caring about the "community" as our pals at Galvan.
