Hudson's Big Dig 2024

 

The photo above was taken yesterday on Union at East Court, with two men working in an enormous crater while six looked on from above.
Below are pictures from Monday's excavation on East Court at Union, a much smaller crater.


The metal cage in the hole is called a trench box, designed to save lives by securing the sidewalls inside an excavation area and preventing cave-ins. OSHA requires the boxes in excavations of 5 feet or deeper.  Colarusso and Delaware Engineering will be using this trench box quite a bit in the next few months.

The amount of diesel exhaust produced by the trucks and machinery necessary for this project is astounding -- a lung, brain and planet destroyer.
