Priorities and More Assuring First-Class Communication From Our DPW Superintendent. Lucky Us!

A new, 8-foot black metal bench appeared at the end of the peninsula in the Riverfront Park sometime late last year or possibly last month.  I think it stands as a symbol of how poorly things operate in Hudson City Hall, particularly as it relates to our Department of Public Works and the person in charge there.  There isn't much done in the public sphere that DPW and Rob Perry aren't involved with in some manner.  Figuring out how Perry is involved with things is not always so easy... or sometimes even possible.  Our Great Communicator Always on Zoom is as elusive, dismissive, concerning and puzzling as any city official can possibly be without being shown the door.

Presumably, Rob Perry found the money and justification to purchase the bench and for DPW to install it. Strangely -- but not at all surprisingly -- Perry never mentioned anything about the bench during any of his recent monthly DPW reports to the council and the public -- not before nor after it was purchased and installed. One wonders who requested that the bench be put there and in that exact location so close to the rocks at the shore. Whose idea was it for the bench and how did that process from idea (suggestion?) to installation work and who did it involve? We may never know. Maybe Rob just did it on his own. Maybe he found some unspent money in his budget at the end of the year and he had to find something to spend it on. Now that's some sensible justification!

Why the hell should Rob tell anyone, or justify to anyone, what he is doing with tax revenue and where he is placing expensive park benches and trash cans?  Makes you wonder what else he's decided to keep mum, or "forgot," about.  I'd bet anyone ten dollars that our so-called mayor is unaware that a new bench that possibly cost us well over one thousand dollars was recently installed a few feet from the high tide mark at the river's edge in our Riverfront Park.

I took this picture at noon on
Wednesday, January 10th, 2024.

The new bench was installed (with concrete pads
for the legs) closer to the water than the 2 existing benches.
Whose idea was this?

Meanwhile, across town, for years Rob hasn't been able to find the money or justification to replace these street signs.  The Slob can't be bothered!  There is obviously nothing wrong with the signs and replacing them would be a waste of city revenue and our $117,000 DPW Superintendent's time.  And there is obviously nothing wrong with Rob Perry's attitude, his approach to his work and his respect of others around him trying to make this city function properly.

What a complete shitshow.

* I know for a fact that DPW recently purchased several new trash receptacles from a company called the Park and Facilities Catalog (dba the Highland Products Group).  Their catalog offers an 8-foot black metal park bench that, if it is not the same as the new bench we have, it is quite close. It sells for just over $1,500.  HUDseen should soon know the exact amount we paid for the bench, and that amount will be disclosed to readers in a follow up article.
