Ever Wonder Why...

... our DPW spends so much time and money repairing broken sewer pipes and maintaining the sewer plant on Dock Street?  Certainly there are at least a few reasons, but could one of them be that our $123,000 DPW Superintendent makes little to no effort at maintaining our precious sewer system by preventing problems BEFORE THEY ARISE?  Isn't the definition of a slob someone who ignores their own messes, including ugly messes right in front of them that, if left ignored, will cost them, and possibly others, dearly at some point?

Don't we deserve better than the recurring situation over the storm drain at 6th & Prison Alley, which is more than just a regular eyesore to so many people passing by, especially on Saturdays when the farmers market is open?

You gotta wonder how many of Rob Perry's hundreds of storm drains in town he might allow to be covered in garbage (and by garbage dumpsters) all the time.  Is it just one of them, like the drain pictured that is regularly obscured by bagged and loose trash and a dumpster?  How about if all of his drains were covered in garbage practically all of the time, would he be okay with that?

Is there something wrong with Rob Perry?  Does he feel like he doesn't make enough money to keep an eye on things?  Is he expected to do too much?  Is he blind?  Is his so-called boss, the so-called mayor of Hudson, as worthless as they come?  Is Hudson City Hall headed for total and catastrophic dysfunction?

How can Rob Perry find this acceptable?
(Picture taken Friday)
Not to worry!  Instead of trying to prevent the recurring problem of garbage directly over, and possibly directly in, his precious sewer system, Perry allows his garbage crew to remove whatever trash they find at 6th & Prison Alley week after week and month after month.  And that is exactly what the crew did today.  It's just easier to ignore the problem than to try to talk to the property owner and threaten them with a code violation ticket (which, ugh, may have to include Code Enforcement).  Just keep removing the garbage left on the storm drain to encourage more of the same for next week.  That's how we solve problems around here.
Monday, clearing the storm drain.

The garbage crew is only supposed to remove
blue garbage bags bought from the city.  All other trash
left on the ground, even if it is bagged,
is a ticketable code violation and not to be removed.

Monday, taken care of.  Ready
for more of the same.

It's difficult for me to put in words how strongly I feel about how broken and dangerous Hudson is (oh, how I've tried!), but the th...
