Good News For The New Year!

It might be a relief to HUDseen readers to know that at least one of the city's six installed $9,000 solar-powered parking kiosks continues to work for at least 36 hours with several inches of snow completely covering its only source of electricity.

Remember, all nine blocks of Warren Street, many of its side streets, some of upper Columbia Street and the five downtown municipal parking lots will be "going with kiosks and digital" beginning in just six days, on Monday, January 5th, 2026.  But keep in mind that no parking kiosks will be used for on-street parking where hundreds of parking meters once ruled and produced revenue in the form of 25-cent pieces and $10 meter violation tickets.  The six kiosks that were installed months ago for our parking lots are it!  Every "metered" parking space outside of the lots will be paid for with "digital," also known as a cell phone, not a parking kiosk.

We'll have to wait until next week to see what the Hudson Police Department and its Parking Bureau have in store for us.  Remember, the city removed all of its parking meters (some of them purchased in the past few years) to create a new parking payment system that, if all goes as planned, will increase parking revenue.  DRAMATICALLY!  Of course, we've already spent over $140,000 on 16 parking kiosks -- 10 of which are still in storage and may never make it out -- so we've got some catching up to do.  (I've heard that the city is paying monthly fees on all the kiosks, perhaps a warranty fee of some sort).
