The plastic JUNK sign -- a fine symbol of America's downfall -- appeared sometime in the last week. Below it, the plastic sign for a roofing company -- not holding up well in the incessant wind -- has been there since I first noticed it six weeks ago.
Anyone can lawfully remove signs from utility poles, including Hudson Mayor Joe Ferris, anyone from HPD or DPW (including Rob Perry) and, of course, anyone from National Grid, the owner of the city's wooden utility poles. National Grid obviously doesn't care.

Is that so, Chief Franklin? And when you see one? Or a dozen?
The first of the ugly, distracting, insipid and unwelcome plastic signs arrived downtown soon after Joe Ferris became our mayor, and now they are showing up everywhere, like mushrooms after a rain. Let's see what, if anything, our dear mayor will do about their proliferation. Once one businessman or woman sees a few, they all get in on the free advertising campaign. At taxpaying residents' expense, of course. This can't be acceptable in 2026! And if Joe Ferris does find the signs acceptable or won't do anything about them, he should somehow be shown the door. He shouldn't have to be told about this quality-of-life issue at one of his "town halls" so that he can respond with, "I'll look into it right away." The signs are everywhere.
Please, mayor, do something and make the problem stop for good. Rob Perry won't.

Another plastic sign that has folded in the wind. It flaps back and forth, as if it is laughing at us.

Upside down, soon to be litter. If we're lucky, it will make its way into the river.
We need a qualified leader or manager, not a mayor who regularly holds (and prepares for) "town halls" and "open office hours" while the city crumbles around him.
