More importantly, perhaps, is the following question: As difficult as it is to imagine, could HPD Parking Captain David Miller be a slob on par with DPW Superintendent Rob Perry?
(The lead picture was taken today a few hours after the storm blew through town. Yesterday, I noticed the $19 scannable parking sign was listing badly. The storm likely did the rest.)
The sign across the street survived the storm, though it also is listing and will soon flop over or fall to the ground and be buried in the weeds.
According to SeeThroughNY, Captain Miller's "total pay" in 2025 was nearly $152,000, 2nd only to Chief Franklin's at $174,000. He began his work at HPD in 2000, becoming Captain a year and a half ago, and taking on unspecified parking duties about one year ago. As far as I can tell, no one -- certainly not the Common Council -- gave HPD the authority last July to "take over parking," as Captain Miller has characterized the change. HPD just decided to do it, and no one questioned it or objected to it. Someone had to do it, I guess. Why not HPD and Captain Miller? We all know there's no more crime to worry about in Hudson.
Over at DPW (though not in City Hall where you will not find him), Rob Perry's "total pay" last year was merely a few dollars shy of $123,000. He is the highest paid city employee not at HPD, 8th on the complete list.
