A few days following HUDseen's May 15th piece about the ugliness surrounding the e-scooter sidewalk rental business that had just popped up in town, an article appeared in the Register-Star regarding the city forcing the owner to remove her scooters and signs while they looked into the legality of her business. Apparently, the main (or sole) issue was that the signs associated with the scooters were in historic zones. And, apparently, Code Enforcement soon gave the scooter lady the approval she needed, possibly just with a sign permit, and back the fleet of scooters and plastic lawn signs -- now with one large A-frame sign -- came to 3 or 4 locations on our sidewalks along Warren Street.
I took these pictures in the past few days.
The scooters in front of Olde Hudson (when they are there) have not had a sign near them for at least the past week. The last time I saw that sign it was ready to fall over flat on the ground. It probably did, and hopefully someone threw it in the trash.
This sign, FLAT ON THE FUCKING GROUND IN THE 7TH STREET PARK yesterday afternoon, had been taped to the signpost earlier in the week, also known as a code violation. Our Code Enforcement Department is encouraging code violations so that it can ignore them. Our mayor is encouraging an uglier Hudson than what he found when he spent a shit ton of his own money and donations to become our so-called mayor.

WTF? It is as if City Hall wants to make Hudson ugly, unsafe, a horrible place to live and do business and to scare visitors off. Remember, our new mayor was 100% behind this scooter rental business idea; he couldn't have been more supportive. (In the article I read, Ferris' statement about the e-scooter business referred to the importance of "micro transportation" in Hudson or some such gobbledygook claptrap.) I'm starting to think that Joe Ferris is a slob, and that being a slob is a requirement to be employed at City Hall. Well, maybe not a requirement, but a preferred trait at least.
As I read in the Register Star article, the owner of the business claimed that she was retrieving her scooters and signs every night to store them in a garage. This is not happening at all. One wonders if the city made it part of the "agreement" that the scooters and signs must be removed every night. HA!
Leasing an important city property to a huge business complex (PBH) in a residential area so they have a place for their guests and customers to park (and failing with the first lease because Rob Perry and the Fire Chief were apparently not notified that they were losing access to nearly the entire Firestation lot). Allowing a scooter rental business to set up shop all over town on our sidewalks, then making the business shut down, then allowing it to resume with the same ugly plastic signs often found flat on the ground. What the hell is next? A huge banner of "mayor" Ferris's beaming face hanging on the facade of City Hall above the garbage bag vending machine?
