How Is This Possible?

This morning, I dropped by the temporary Hudson City Hall on Washington Street to see if, by the slimmest of chances, DPW Superintendent Robert Perry was around to answer a question or two about the mudslide across the street in the lot.  As I expected, Mr. Perry was not available, but one of his DPW clerks was kind enough to at least try to help me get an idea of where he might be.

I have been in contact with James Malcolm at the New York State DEC Water Division about the cleanup effort by our DPW in the Washington Street lot/dump.  He told me today via email that he is planning "to speak to DPW Superintendent Robert Perry and Delaware Engineering today."

Who and What Are Sidewalks For?

Imagine if every business downtown left just 5 feet of sidewalk from the curb for pedestrians, as the coffee shop on Park Place does.  They have wheeled planters in front of their business, but never move them out of the middle of the sidewalk, not even when they are closed.  The shop owners are perfectly fine with blocking the middle and most of their sidewalk 24/7 with large, heavy metal objects. 

Just Ten Dollars For Intentionally Parking In The Wrong Direction?

There are plenty of unlawful and dangerous things that drivers intentionally do which irk me. Parking in the wrong direction is definitely on the list, and that is exactly what I saw a neighbor of mine do yesterday on N. 6th Street, just north of State Street.  It's a stupid, inconsiderate, and dangerous thing to do, and my neighbor knew exactly what he was doing when he parked in front of two cars facing the other direction.

As I have noted in other articles, and is likely not news to most who have lived in Hudson for a while, the situation with signs in the City of Hudson is downright ugly.  Even the parking consultant that the city hired recently noticed our "tired" and "confusing" signs, as he called them.  I think it might be time for a committee to keep an eye on our signage to improve things and get some consistency, clarity and sanity.
